Switched to a magnesium float and it saved my finish on a big driveway pour last week
Was working a 40 yard driveway in Phoenix last Thursday. Hot day, sun beating down. Normally I use a resin float but I grabbed a magnesium one instead because my regular one had a chunk missing. The difference was night and day. Way less drag, smoother finish, and I didn't have to fight it as much to get that cream to the top. Anyone else made that switch and stuck with it?

@mary_foster92 I actually felt the same way until that pour. Always figured resin was the standard for float work. The magnesium just glides so much better in the heat though. You ever try one on a hot day?

Honestly, I half expected the magnesium to just feel like scraping a butter knife across concrete but it surprised me. Ngl, that first pass where it just glides instead of sticking is kind of a game changer. Resin has its place I guess, but in the Phoenix heat it feels like wrestling a 200 pound rubber mat. Tbh I kept waiting for the thing to just break in half or something but it held up fine. Might just be a hot weather trick though, not sure it would matter on a normal day.

Wait, you actually like the magnesium better? I always thought resin was the way to go.
