Unpopular opinion: magnesium floats beat laser screeds on small pads

Everyone in my crew swore by the laser screed for anything over 200 square feet. I fought it for years. Bought a used magnesium float set from a guy in Tacoma for $80 just to shut up my uncle. First job I tried them on was a 400 square foot patio in Puyallup. Setup took me 5 minutes versus the 40 minutes of fussing with the laser tripod. The surface came out flatter than anything I got with the laser because I could feel the low spots instead of staring at a green line. My uncle still gives me grief but he borrowed my floats last Tuesday for his own job. Anybody else ditch the high tech gear on smaller pours or am I the only one who likes the old school feel?

Read somewhere that feel beats tech on small pads every time.

Once I get past about 40 minutes, specs stop mattering. My ears just take over.
