Honestly that's all it takes sometimes. People overthink this stuff way too much with fancy gear when a cheap edger and some patience gets you there. The tool doesn't make the finish, the touch does. I've seen hacks do better work with harbor freight junk than pros with $500 machines.

Read this thing the other day from an old school carpenter who said he'd rather teach a new guy on a beat up saw than a brand new one. Something about how the struggle forces you to learn the real feel of the cut. idk if that's always true but it kinda clicked with what you're saying. Maybe it's just me but I feel like when you start with nicer gear you never figure out how to work around problems when they pop up. The cheap stuff forces you to actually understand what you're doing instead of just letting the machine do it for you.
