Wet edge timing on stamped slabs, saved a 40 yard pour in Fresno

I was fighting a 90 degree day and the concrete started setting faster than my partner could lay the release, so I switched to misting the surface with a pump sprayer every 10 minutes and it bought us enough time to stamp clean, has anyone else tried that on hot pours or am I risking a weak skin?

Five years in Fresno taught me that 90 degree days are just the valley's way of saying good morning, and my first hot pour I tried the misting trick too. Ended up with a surface hard enough to skate on but the edges crumbled like stale cornbread, so I learned the hard way that timing is everything. Your pump sprayer method sounds better than what I did, which was basically panic and throw a tarp over it mid-stamp. If it worked on a 40 yard slab, I'd trust it more than my old trick of yelling at the concrete to slow down.
