Heard a guy at the coffee shop say the moon landing tapes were 'obviously' destroyed on purpose
Honestly, he was going on about how the original footage from 1969 just vanished from a NASA archive. It made me look up the official reason, which is that they reused the tapes to save money. Has anyone else dug into why they'd erase something that big?

Oh man, YES. I went down that exact rabbit hole a few years ago when some guy at a dinner party swore the government hid the moon landing. It's crazy how people latch onto the "destroyed on purpose" thing without looking at the boring reality. I spent like an hour reading about that weird analog tape format they used, and it's honestly just a classic case of old tech getting tossed. It reminds me of when I had a box of VHS tapes from my dad's old camcorder and my wife accidentally taped over his fishing trip with a soap opera. Same energy, just way more important tapes.

Look into the tape format they used, it was a weird one inch type not made for TV. They had to point a film camera at a video monitor to make the famous broadcast, so the best quality version was always that film copy. The tapes they reused were just the raw data feeds, which NASA figured they didn't need after they made the film transfer.
