Picked a local roaster over Starbucks for my morning coffee last month
Was spending like $60 a week at Starbucks until I tried this indie roaster called Highwire near my place. Their medium roast costs $15 a bag and I make way better coffee at home now. Anyone else ditch the chain spots for something local?

$60 a week for coffee seems high, that's more like $15 a pound at Starbucks.

I read somewhere that the average coffee drinker spends $1,100 a year on fancy drinks, which is wild.

You said $60 a week seems high and more like $15 a pound at Starbucks, but I gotta push back on that a little. Back when I was going to Starbucks every morning, a grande latte was like $5.50 with tax, and if I dropped in on weekends too, $60 was easy to hit. I wasn't buying whole beans, I was buying drinks. Highwire's $15 bag lasts me like two and a half weeks of strong morning coffee at home, so for me it's not just about the price per pound but how much less I'm spending on individual drinks every day. I get that if you're just buying beans from Starbucks it's a different story, but for a lot of us the real savings came from stopping the daily latte habit.
