Question about the sudden drop in quality of a popular tool brand

I bought a new cordless drill from a well known brand about three months ago, and the chuck started wobbling badly after maybe 20 uses. My old one from the same company lasted over a decade. I've heard two theories: one side says it's planned obsolescence and cost cutting after a corporate buyout. The other side insists it's just a bad batch from a single factory and the brand's reputation is still solid. Has anyone else seen a real shift in durability, or did I just get unlucky?

Ugh, been there! Check if it's still under warranty, that's usually a quick fix.

Tell me about it, I once bought a brand new saw that died after two cuts. Felt like a real genius trying to explain that to my wallet. Sometimes you just get the Friday afternoon special straight off the assembly line. Warranty is the only thing that saved me from having a very expensive paperweight.

Honestly, the bad batch idea makes a lot of sense. These companies make millions of tools, and a small number will always slip through with a flaw. My neighbor got a replacement from them last year for a similar issue, and the new one has been perfect. It’s easy to blame a big plan to make things worse, but simple factory errors happen way more often. I’d bet your old drill was just a lucky workhorse, and this new one is a rare dud.
