Split: Did the 'chemtrail' haze over Austin last month cause my car's paint to peel, or was it just that cheap $400 respray I got?
My 2004 Honda Civic started losing clear coat in patches exactly 3 days after that weird white cloud hung over the city for a week, so which side do you lean on for the cause of the failure?

Figure out if the cheap respray used single stage paint or a two stage clear coat system first. Single stage urethane can fail from acidic rain or weird chemical fallout way faster than a quality two stage job. Did you check the paint code or ask the shop what they sprayed on there? If they used the cheapest enamel they could find, that haze might have just been the final nail in the coffin, not the actual cause.

Wow, I actually used to roll my eyes at the chemtrail stuff but I'm rethinking it after seeing what happened to your hood. That timing is way too specific to just be bad luck with a cheap paint job.

Man that really sucks to see. The timing alone is enough to make anyone wonder, I don't blame you for questioning it. Three days after a week of that haze is not a coincidence in my book, especially not with such a specific damage pattern. I've seen what industrial fallout can do to paint and it's never pretty, it eats through clear coat like acid. A cheap respray might not hold up great on its own, but it shouldn't fail that fast unless something else attacked it. You have my sympathies either way, that's a rough spot to be in.
