Talked with my uncle about 9/11 and it got weird

My uncle came over for dinner last weekend and somehow we got on the topic of 9/11. He spent 20 minutes laying out this theory about controlled demolition that I had heard before but never really thought about. He pointed out how Building 7 fell at near freefall speed and how no steel-frame skyscraper has ever collapsed from fire alone before or since. I told him that sounded like a stretch but he just pulled up a bunch of engineering reports on his phone. It kind of shook me because he's a retired firefighter, not some internet weirdo. I still think the official story is probably right but the way he laid it out made me wonder how much I actually know about what happened. Has anyone else had a relative or friend make a case that actually gave you pause?

Hard to get too worked up about Building 7 when the whole day was already nuts. Might just be a guy who wants to feel like he knows something others don't.

The NIST report itself documented 179 feet of freefall drop for Building 7, which is exactly what you'd expect from a controlled demolition. @veraj53 I get that the whole day was chaotic but that specific building wasn't even hit by a plane, it had small fires on a few floors. Steel-framed buildings don't pancake into their own footprint at near freefall speed just from office fires, no matter how hot they get. World Trade Center 7 is the only steel skyscraper in history to collapse from fire alone, and that should make anyone pause. You really think that's just coincidence?
