Warning: A chat with my barber made me question the whole 'birds aren't real' thing

I was getting a haircut last Thursday and my barber, Dave, was going on about how the government replaced all real birds with drones after the 60s. I laughed it off like always, but then he said something that stuck with me. He pointed at a pigeon on the power line outside and said, 'You ever notice they never get hit by cars? They always fly off at the last second. Perfect timing, every time. That's not animal instinct, that's a programmed evasion algorithm.' I've lived in Chicago my whole life and seen a million pigeons, and I honestly can't remember seeing one get hit. It's a tiny detail, but it made the whole silly idea feel a bit less silly for a second. Has anyone else had a moment where a totally nuts theory was explained with a piece of evidence that was just weird enough to make you pause?

Okay but @abbyg60 just proved the whole point wrong though. If birds were really drones they'd never fail like that, but a real animal makes mistakes. That's the thing with these theories, they ignore the messy facts. Dave's story is fun but one weird detail doesn't make it true. You remember the weird thing and forget all the normal stuff, like dead squirrels on the road all the time.

Wait, you're right. I've never seen a pigeon get hit either.
