Had to pick between a lift and ladders for a 3 story job in Tacoma and I'm still second guessing
Two weeks ago I bid a siding job on a 3 story building in Tacoma and had to decide between renting a 60 foot boom lift for $1,400 a week or just running my own ladders and staging like I always have. I went with the lift because my guys were getting nervous on the extension ladders and I figured the speed would pay for itself. It did not. The ground on the back side was too soft and we spent a full morning building cribbing just to get the thing level, then it rained and the rental sat there doing nothing for two days. So now I'm out the rental money and still behind schedule. Has anyone had luck with a track mounted lift on soft ground instead of cribbing a boom every time?
Funny how this keeps happening with equipment. You rent the thing to save time and the rental turns into its own job. Building cribbing, watching the radar, babysitting a machine that costs more per day than some of your guys make. Feels like the same trap as buying the fancy tool for one project and then it sits in the truck for a year. The soft ground thing is real though, Tacoma backyards are basically sponge half the year. A track machine spreads the weight out way better, but you still want mats down or you're just making ruts slower.
