Hand signals vs radios on a 14-story build, night and day
Back in 2005 I was on a crew in Austin and we used hand signals for crane picks. One guy on the roof, one on the ground, shouting over diesel engines. We had a near miss when a load swung into a scaffold because the signal guy lost sight for 3 seconds. After that job I bought a cheap pair of two-way radios for $40 and never looked back. Now I run a small crew and I won't even start a lift without everyone on the same channel. How many of you still use hand signals on smaller residential sites where radios feel like overkill?
