Rant: Wasted $800 on a concrete pump that never showed up

I booked a concrete pump for a small foundation pour last month, paid the deposit upfront. The guy confirmed the day before, said he'd be there at 7am. I had six guys standing around waiting until noon before I finally called him. He said his truck broke down and he couldn't make it, but he wouldn't refund my deposit either. Has anyone else dealt with these no-show pumpers?

Man I heard someone else say the same thing about a pump guy ghosting them last month.

That thing about "the same thing" happening to someone else really catches my attention. Was it the same guy or just a similar situation with different people? I keep wondering if these pump guys are using some kind of script or if they're just all flaky by nature. Did that other person ever say what happened after they got ghosted, like did the pump guy ever come back around or just disappear for good? It feels like there's a pattern here that nobody's fully talking about yet.
