Showerthought: I was staging materials way too close to the lift path until a foreman in Baltimore set me straight
Last week I had a 40 foot boom lift running back and forth on a tight site in Baltimore and I kept wondering why the operator was getting so frustrated with me. I had been staging pallets of block and bundles of rebar about 8 feet from where the lift needed to swing, thinking that was plenty of room. The foreman pulled me aside and pointed out that the tail swing on that lift needs almost 12 feet of clearance, and I had been forcing the operator to do a 3 point shuffle every single trip. He said he had watched me do it for two days before saying anything because he wanted to see if I would catch it myself. Now I keep a spray painted line 15 feet back from every lift path and the whole crew moves way faster. Has anyone else had a blind spot like that where you thought you had enough room but really didn't?
