Switched our concrete pours to night shifts and my crew's output went down, not up
Everyone in our shop swears night pours are the move because of cooler temps and less traffic, so I moved our 3 man crew to a 10pm to 6am slot for a 4,500 sq ft slab in Mesa. After 3 pours the finish crew was averaging 40 minutes behind the same job we used to knock out at 5am, and I lost 2 guys to no-shows by the second shift. Turns out these guys have been pouring mornings for 12 years and their bodies just don't flip, no matter how nice the weather is. We went back to early starts and the last slab came in 25 minutes under my own estimate. So the popular take is wrong for us. Anyone else had a crew that just flat performs better when the sun is coming up instead of going down?
