A client in Chicago told me my blowouts were too tight

She said her scalp hurt for two days after her last appointment. I realized I was pulling the hair too hard while sectioning. Now I use a wider tooth comb and check in halfway through. Has anyone else adjusted their tension after getting feedback?

Totally get this! I had a regular who winced when I was brushing out a mat. I was so focused on getting the knot out I forgot to check her comfort. Now I make a point to stop and ask "how's the pressure?" every minute or so during tough spots. It feels a bit silly at first, but clients really seem to like being asked. It completely changed how I handle sensitive areas.

Honestly, that small check-in makes a huge difference.

My friend had the same thing happen with her braiding work. A client said it felt like a headache was starting before she even left the chair. She started asking people to tell her if the pull was too much right after the first few braids.
