A client in Chicago told me my blowouts were too tight on her scalp

She came in for a regular cut and style about three months ago, and halfway through the blowout she just said, 'Can you ease up a bit? This feels like a headache waiting to happen.' I was so focused on getting the volume perfect, I didn't realize my tension was way too high. Now I always ask about pressure and check in during the process, especially with new clients. Anyone else adjust their technique after getting that kind of direct feedback?

Ever had a client wince when you section their hair?

Oh man, that feedback is a total game changer (happened to me too). I started asking "how's the pull?" like @morgan898 might after a wince.

My first year, I probably gave three people actual tension headaches before I figured it out. I get what @grantp28 means about it being a game changer, because that direct "ouch" is the best teacher. Now my hands are way lighter unless someone asks for that super tight pull.
