Blew out a client's highlights last week because I wasn't checking the clock

I was chatting away and left the bleach on 10 minutes too long, and my stylist buddy pointed out I never set a timer. Has anyone else gotten burned by not using a simple kitchen timer for your foils?

My buddy Jules fried a friends roots back in 2018 because she was watching a makeup tutorial and lost track of time. The bleach sat for 45 minutes instead of 25. Her friend walked out looking like a pumpkin spice latte that got left in the sun too long.

Is it bad that I kinda wanna know what shade orange it turned out to be? I mean, I've seen some people accidentally get that copper color from leaving bleach on too long, and it's not always a total disaster if the tone is right. But 45 minutes on roots sounds like pure chaos, that's way past the point of no return. Idk, maybe the friend just walked out looking like a new person ready for fall, but I bet that was a rough conversation the next day.

The real trick isn't the timer but getting a client who actually listens when you say "text me if I zone out for more than 15 minutes." Ever had someone just sit there watching you scroll Instagram while their hair cooks?
