Did anyone else do highlights wrong for years before someone pointed it out?
I sectioned hair in big chunks with foil folded too tight for like 5 years, then a client asked why her color looked so stripey and I froze mid-brush at my station in Austin. A coworker finally showed me how to weave thin subsections and paint in a zigzag, and I felt like an idiot. What's the thing you did on autopilot until one comment or glance in the mirror made you rethink your whole technique?

Same exact thing happened to me with balayage, kept painting in straight lines til a client asked about her stripes and I had to redo the whole head. Weaving those fine sections and breaking up the pattern changes everything, just takes some practice to trust it.

Breaking up the pattern changes everything" really hit me... I used to think more sections meant more work but honestly it's the opposite once you get the hang of it. Totally changed how I do foils too.
