Had a client cry happy tears yesterday over a color match

I was working with this lady Diane in my chair at the salon in Phoenix, shes been coming to me for like 3 years now. She handed me a photo of her from 2002, some vacation in Hawaii, and asked if I could get her back to that exact honey blonde. It took me two tries because her current base was way darker than I guessed, but when I rinsed and blowdried it she just started crying and said it looked exactly like her old self. Has anyone else ever had a color correction that just clicked like that?

Has anyone considered that maybe it wasn't just about the color itself, but that shade was linked to a time in her life when she felt more like herself? Sometimes a hair color can trigger a memory or a feeling that you thought was lost and that's what makes you cry. Sounds like you gave her back a piece of her identity, not just a hair color.

Love that for her. Color corrections that hit just right are the best feeling.

Had a friend who tried to DIY her color correction once. Ended up with orange roots and had to wear hats for two weeks before she let a pro fix it. She learned the hard way that some things are best left to the experts.
