I keep seeing stylists use purple shampoo like it's regular shampoo and it's driving me crazy

Watched a girl at my salon in Austin literally lather purple shampoo all over her client's head and let it sit for 5 minutes like it was a clarifying wash. Then she wondered why the ends turned blue-gray. Purple shampoo is a toner, not a cleanser. You gotta put it on wet hair, work it through, and rinse after 30 seconds to a minute max. Who else has seen this mistake ruin a good blonde?

I leave it on much longer than a minute and my blonde looks fine.

Ask your stylist what your actual hair porosity level is. Because if you're leaving purple shampoo on for minutes at a time without it turning your hair funny, you probably have really low porosity hair that barely absorbs anything. Most people with normal or high porosity hair will end up looking like a Smurf if they do that. What's your natural blonde level, like a 7 or an 8?
