I thought those scalp scrubber brushes were just a gimmick until my client's hair changed my mind
Okay, so for a while I was really skeptical about those little silicone scalp scrubber brushes everyone was pushing. I figured it was just another extra step to sell to clients. But then I had a regular, Sarah, who came in complaining about buildup and her hair feeling flat no matter what shampoo we used. She bought one on a whim at a drugstore for like $8. When she came back for her next appointment 6 weeks later, her scalp was visibly cleaner and her hair had way more volume at the roots. She said she used it twice a week with her clarifying shampoo. Seeing that real difference on an actual person convinced me it wasn't just hype. Have any of you started recommending these to clients, and if so, what's your favorite technique for showing them how to use it properly?

But is it actually safe for colored hair... I worry all that extra scrubbing might strip the color faster, especially with a clarifying shampoo. That combo seems like it could be really harsh.

Honestly, it can be a problem if you're not careful. The trick is to only use a scrubber with your regular color-safe shampoo, maybe once a week max. Never pair it with a clarifying wash, that's asking for trouble.

Remember how we all used to tell clients to use their fingertips, not nails, to scrub? I wonder if part of the magic is that the scrubber actually forces people to wash their hair longer. Most people rush through it, but you have to move that thing around for a bit to feel like you did anything. That extra minute of actual contact time might be what's breaking up the buildup, not just the silicone bristles themselves. It's a sneaky way to build better habits.
