I told my coworker her balayage technique was wrong... now I feel dumb

This girl Jessica who's been doing hair for like 15 years told me to feather my highlights instead of using heavy slices for a lived-in look. I argued with her for 10 minutes saying she was behind the times. Finally tried her way on my last client from Denver yesterday and the result was way softer and more natural. Has anyone else had to eat their words like that when a veteran stylist gave simple advice?

I read somewhere that Balayage is French for "sweeping," not slicing, so she was right.

Look @miles279, you're not wrong about the French translation, but I bet my attempt at saying "balayage" out loud sounded like I was ordering a fancy coffee that doesn't exist. The one time I tried to tell a stylist I wanted "slicing highlights" she just stared at me and slowly backed away from the chair. I definitely would have been that person laughing at myself after getting schooled on basic French hair vocabulary.

Did she laugh at you after you tried her way?
