My bleach bath disaster in Detroit taught me to mix smarter

Last Tuesday I tried to fix a client's brassy roots with a bleach bath and ended up giving her a patchy orange mess. I was in the back of my salon in Detroit, rushing through the mix because she had a dinner date, and I added way too much 20 volume developer. The mid-shafts lifted faster than the roots, and I spent 40 minutes doing a corrective toner just to make it look halfway decent. The client was cool about it, but my manager overheard and showed me how she pre-sectioned and timed each zone. Now I always check the porosity of the hair first and use a timer for each section, no more eyeballing it. Anyone else got a horror story from trusting a quick fix over proper technique?

Yeah, I used to think speeding through was fine too, but this totally flipped my view.
