My client's mom dropped a truth bomb about my chair side manner

I was doing a blowout on a bridesmaid last Saturday and her mom was sitting nearby watching. She said I had a habit of rushing through the consultation like I was checking boxes. Made me realize I treat questions like a script instead of actually listening to what people want. Has anyone else had a client's family member call them out on something that ended up being good advice?

Yeah that's actually a solid wake up call. Having someone watch you work from the outside can really show you stuff you don't notice yourself. Sounds like she did you a favor honestly.

Depends on the person watching though. Some people just have a way of nitpicking that makes you second guess everything you do, even the stuff that was working fine. That kind of feedback can mess with your groove more than it helps. If the person isn't experienced in what you do specifically, their advice might be more about their own style than actually improving yours.

Exactly, having someone else watch can backfire hard if they're just projecting their own insecurities onto your workflow. Worst case you end up second guessing moves that were actually fine and lose your natural rhythm. Not every outside perspective is a gift, sometimes it's just noise dressed up as advice.
