My color mixing bowl shattered mid-application on a bride yesterday
I was doing a trial run for a wedding next month, had this perfect rose gold mixed up in my favorite glass bowl. Right as I'm about to dip my brush, the bowl just cracks right down the middle, sending color all over her white cape and my station. I stood there staring at the mess for a solid 10 seconds before I grabbed a towel and started apologizing like crazy. Thank god she was chill about it, but I had to remix the whole formula from scratch while scrubbing pink stains off everything. Anyone else have a tool fail on them at the worst possible moment?

In my experience, most color bowls are made from tempered glass, which is supposed to handle temperature changes. But if you had even a tiny scratch in the bowl or if the mixture had something cold in it and the bowl was room temp, that could explain the crack. I have a few older glass bowls I only use for dry mixing now because I ruined one the same way a few years back. Maybe switch to a stainless steel cup for your metallics, they hold up way better to the constant stirring and don't shatter. Your bride sounds like a saint for not freaking out, that could have been a real disaster.

Oh man, I had a pair of scissors basically commit seppuku on me during a fitting once. They were old but reliable, and right as I'm trimming a loose thread on a bridesmaid's dress, the screw pops out and the blades just drop onto the floor like they gave up on life entirely. The poor girl jumped, thinking I'd stabbed myself or something. I had to lie and say it was just a "snap-happy accident" because I didn't want her thinking I was a menace with sharp objects. Took me twenty minutes to find that tiny screw under the rack.
