Overheard a stylist say 'balayage is easy money' and I had to bite my tongue
She was quoting $300 for a full head while I've seen her rush through three in one afternoon, leaving banding every time. Easy money maybe, but I'd rather book fewer slots and actually do the work, you know? Anyone else feel like the 'quick fix' trend is killing our craft or am I just old fashioned?

Flip it around for a second. Charge what the market pays and move people through, that's just smart business. I know a girl who does four or five balayages a day, keeps it simple, and her clients love her because she's fast and consistent. She's not trying to be an artist, she's giving people what they ask for, a quick change that fades out without a harsh line. Maybe the banding you saw was a one-off or the hair was already messed up from box dye. Honestly, if someone can make three hundred bucks in a few hours, more power to them, and the clients who care about perfection can pay more elsewhere. The craft is changing, but that doesn't mean it's dying, it just means different people want different things.
