Spent $180 on a hair steamer that nearly ruined my whole setup

I bought one of those portable hair steamers off Amazon thinking it would be a game changer for deep conditioning treatments. First time using it, the thing leaked water all over my station and almost shorted out my curling iron. Cost me $180 plus an hour cleaning up a mess. Has anyone else had bad luck with those steamer gadgets or did I just get a dud?

180 reviews and a 4.5 star rating on that thing before I bought mine too. I got the same model and have used it twice a week for 3 months with zero leaks or issues. Maybe the problem isn't the product category but how people set these things up. Most steamers need the water tank seated perfectly and the rubber seal to be clean or they'll dribble everywhere. Also curious how close you had the curling iron to the steamer since those shouldn't even be near each other during use.

That $180 steamer basically just turned your station into a mini sauna and almost gave you an electrical fire for free. Sounds like a total dud, honestly.

I had a similar thing happen with a cheap dehumidifier from Amazon last year. Turned my basement into a swamp and the thing actually melted the power cord after three weeks. It's this whole pattern now where companies slap "smart" or "steam" on something, charge a premium, and ship out garbage that barely passed safety testing. People see a higher price tag and assume it means quality, but really it just means the marketing team worked harder. Eventually someone's going to get hurt from one of these fire hazards and then maybe the regulators will actually look at these imports.
