The $6 hair clamp I hated for 2 years is now my favorite tool
Picked up a cheap magnetic clamp at a beauty supply in Cleveland because I forgot mine, and I tossed it in my drawer after one use because it kept slipping. Last month during a 9-client day I grabbed it out of desperation and realized the magnet holds better on my alligator clips than the $40 ones I bought online. Has anyone else found a random cheap tool that ended up outperforming their expensive gear?

That cheap clamp has some kind of hold on it. Same thing happened to me with a drugstore styling comb I bought on a whim. Paid like three bucks for it and it sat in my bag for months. Then one day my nice professional comb broke mid-shoot and I grabbed the cheap one. It glides through wet hair better than anything I've owned. Now I hide it from my coworkers so nobody walks off with it. Sometimes the expensive version is just paying for the name, not the actual tool.

Ha! That's exactly how it goes, isn't it? The junk we buy on impulse always ends up being the one thing we can't live without. I've got a scraper in my truck that cost less than my lunch and it's outlasted three of the fancy ones. It's like the universe rewards us for having low expectations, you know? Maybe the expensive brands are just charging us for the confidence to not lose the damn thing.
