The Saturday I turned away 4 clients in one day, and why I would do it again
Last month a bride came in with a photo of a balayage she wanted done in 90 minutes before her rehearsal dinner, and when I said it needed two sessions she called me lazy in front of my 2 o'clock client. I still gave her the honest version, told her a rushed lightening job on box dyed hair would wreck it, and lost her plus the 3 friends she brought along that day. Most stylists I know would have just taken the $600, so tell me straight, do you hold the line on hair health or is that just bad business in this town?
I read a thread last year from a colorist who said the clients she lost by being honest always came back or sent referrals, while the ones she rushed ended up costing her way more in fixes and bad reviews. That stuck with me because it flips the whole "bad business" idea on its head, since a wrecked head of hair tells everyone in town what you did. You did the hard right thing, and the money you lost that Saturday is nothing next to the rep you kept.
