TIL the salon in the new Riverwalk mall charges $85 for a basic cut and blow-dry

I was walking through the new Riverwalk mall over in Springfield yesterday and stopped to look at the fancy new salon that just opened. Their menu was posted in the window, and I almost did a double take when I saw the price for a women's cut and style. It's $85, before any color or treatment. That's almost double what most of us charge at our places in town. On one hand, I get it... they have a prime spot, high rent, and probably use top-shelf products. But on the other hand, it feels like it prices out a lot of regular clients who just want a good, reliable trim. It got me thinking about where the line is between a fair price for our skill and just charging for the zip code. Do you think high prices like that help lift the value of our work for everyone, or do they just make clients think we're all overcharging? I'd love to hear what you charge in your area.

Remember my friend Lisa who runs a little salon over on Maple? She freaked out when a place charging triple her prices opened two blocks away. Turns out it was the best thing that ever happened to her, just like beth_webb76 said. Her regulars stayed loyal because they trusted her, and she even got new clients who wanted good hair without the fancy mall tax. It really comes down to what you're selling, the skill or the address. Some people will always pay for the experience, but most just want to walk out feeling good without their wallet crying.

We had a similar high-end salon open near my shop. It actually helped my business because clients saw my prices as more reasonable for the same skill. I just kept doing good work and explaining my value.

Oh that's interesting! My cousin's bakery had the same thing happen when a fancy place moved in down the street.
