My brother told me to skip the fishing in Stardew and now I regret listening to him

My brother has about 300 hours in Stardew Valley and he told me last month to just ignore fishing entirely because it is a waste of time and the mini game is annoying. I took his word for it and got to winter of year one with no fish pond, no crab pots, and a community center bundle file that looks like a ghost town. Turns out fishing is the fastest early cash in the whole game and I spent three seasons picking parsnips for 35 gold a pop like a chump. Now I am sitting on a save that is basically soft locked behind a fish tank I cannot fill, and he just shrugs and says he plays on PC with mods. What is the least painful way to grind out five different fish before spring, or do I just start over in shame?
