Appreciation post: that old crane at the Port of Long Beach taught me something

I got stuck running a 1987 Link-Belt for a week while our newer rig was down for service. The old girl had zero sensors, everything was manual, and I had to feel the swing by the seat of my pants. Turns out that week sharpened my boom control more than 5 years on modern machines. Has anyone else spent time on older equipment and come away a better operator for it?

Old iron don't lie, just humbles you real quick.
