My crew in Houston last week said I was nuts for refusing a blind lift.

The load was 12 tons of steel going over a finished roof, and the signalman was new. I've seen a rigger get his foot crushed in a similar spot three years ago at the Port of Galveston. When do you all draw the line on trusting a signal?

Yeah, that's not nuts at all. Seen a bad lift go wrong once and it sticks with you. New guy on the signal with that kind of load is a hard pass for me too.

Hell no you're not nuts! @skylerrobinson is right, one bad lift changes you. My buddy watched a crane swing into a power line because the spotter was on his phone. 12 tons over a finished roof with a green signalman? That's how people get killed.

That "green signalman" thing is everywhere now, people half focused on everything.
