My old foreman told me to stop booming down so fast on the Grove, and he was right
I used to slam the load down the last 10 feet because it felt quicker, but he told me on the I-35 job in Waco that I was shock loading the boom and it'd bite me on the wear pads. Now I ease it down the whole way and my swing feels way smoother, anyone else get called out on this or is it just me?
Been there with the same thing on a 90 ton, and yeah, the old timers know what they're talking about. Good on you for taking the advice instead of getting stubborn about it.
Wait, a 90 ton? You were running something that big and still had the same issue? That blows my mind, I figured a machine that size would be a whole different animal. How does something that heavy even act up the same way as the smaller rigs? I would've guessed the fix was totally different on a 90 ton, but I guess the basics don't change no matter how big the iron is. Makes me wonder how many guys out there are fighting the same thing and just won't listen to the folks who've done it before.
