Hit 10,000 words on my draft and it happened on a Tuesday morning
I was writing about a guy who fixes furnaces during a heatwave in Phoenix and suddenly the word counter flipped to 10,000. That number felt huge since I usually quit around 1,500 with any story idea. It wasn't even a planned milestone, I just kept going because the scene about a faulty thermostat got so ridiculous. Has anyone else had a random word count moment that made them realize their story actually had legs?

Keep chasing that thermostat scene, momentum like that usually means the story is ready to surprise you.

Hell yeah, that's the truth. I've had stories stall out for weeks and then suddenly the next scene just takes over once I quit forcing it. @shanem37, chasing that momentum has saved my ass more times than I can count, so trust it and see where it drags you.
