Honestly, I picked a 'found footage' horror prompt over a 'haunted house' one and it saved my story.

Tbh, the haunted house idea felt tired, so I went with a character finding a corrupted memory card in a ditch. That one specific object gave me a creepy, modern hook my writing group actually got into. Anyone else had a prompt choice totally change a project's direction?

Totally get that. Sometimes a single weird object is way better than a whole tired setting.

Single weird object" made me remember this old lamp my grandma had. It was shaped like a fish but the shade was covered in maps. What even is that?

My aunt had a teapot shaped like a toad wearing a tiny crown. It's those oddball things that stick with you. Like @stella_lane's fish map lamp, they feel like a secret joke from the person who owned them. A normal lamp just gives light, but that thing tells a whole weird story without saying a word.
