I thought character name generators were a total waste of time until one gave me a name that broke my whole plot wide open
I rolled my eyes at those random prompt tools for like two years, then last month a generator spit out "Marla the pawnshop owner" and suddenly I had 4 pages of backstory I never saw coming. What random prompt tool actually surprised you like that?

What was it about "Marla the pawnshop owner" that clicked for you, like was it the job itself or the name combo? I ask because I've had a couple generator names land flat for me, but when one finally hit it was because the name sounded like someone I'd actually met before. Did you end up keeping the whole backstory or just cherry picking pieces?
