Pro tip: I wrote a story from my cat's point of view and it got weird fast
For a challenge last month, I decided to write a 500 word flash fiction piece from my cat's perspective. I thought it would be funny, but it turned into a surprisingly dark story about the hidden world under our couch. I learned that forcing a specific point of view can unlock themes you never planned. Now I'm stuck because the idea feels too strange to expand into a full story. Has anyone else had a simple prompt take a sharp turn into something unexpected?

Wait, the hidden world under your couch is dark? My cat just finds old hair ties and dust bunnies down there. Maybe you should check for a secret portal or something.

Honestly, you need a good flashlight to really check under there. My kids' toys end up in the void all the time. If you see anything shiny or feel a draft, that's a bad sign. Might want to poke around with a broom handle before reaching in. Found a whole snack bowl once, which explained the ants.

What kind of flashlight do you use that's strong enough? Susan130 might be onto something with the portal idea if you're finding whole snack bowls. I just find crumbs and a weird, sticky spot I don't want to know about.
