Wasted $45 on a "plot twist generator" ebook for writers

I bought this ebook that claimed to have 100 plot twist ideas for fantasy writers. It was basically just random sentence fragments like "the hero betrays..." with no follow through or actual structure. I got through maybe 10 of them before I realized I paid for something I could have made up myself in an hour. Has anyone else fallen for a writing tool or guide that was way overhyped and gave nothing useful?

Wow that's rough, but honestly a lot of those "tools" are just preying on writer insecurity rather than actually helping you create. Did you ever try just using your own bad ideas as a starting point, since sometimes the worst prompts lead to the best stories?

Yeah I totally agree with you @keith_rivera19, those "tools" are basically just selling writer's block back to us like it's some new thing. I tried that approach of leaning into bad ideas and honestly it worked better than any fancy prompt generator. The worst plot twists I've written ended up being the most memorable ones for my readers. It's like your brain needs permission to be bad before it can actually get creative. That whole industry feeds on people who think they need a shortcut instead of just trusting their own instincts.
