Appreciation post: The upgrade in my editing workflow over 3 months was massive
I switched from a $50 mouse to a $200 trackball back in June and it changed how fast I cut videos. My hand stopped cramping after 4 hour sessions, and I dropped my turnaround time from 2 days to 1. The real kicker was learning to map shortcuts to the extra buttons. Anyone else found a simple gear swap that boosted their speed?

Three months ago I would have said a $200 mouse was ridiculous but here we are. @carter.gavin I get the skepticism but the real win isn't the price tag, it's the ergonomics and button mapping that add up over time. And yeah, the_elliot is right about the hand cramp thing - that's a productivity killer nobody talks about until it hits you. Just a small correction though, a trackball is different from an ergonomic mouse since your thumb or fingers move the ball instead of your whole arm. That's actually why it helped my wrist so much compared to a regular mouse, even a fancy one.

oh man, i feel this so hard. i had the exact same thing happen when i finally ditched my cheap mouse for a proper ergonomic one. the hand cramp thing is brutal, i used to have to stop every 45 minutes to shake my hand out and it killed my flow. mapping shortcuts to extra buttons is the secret sauce for sure, i put my cut and ripple delete on the side buttons and it probably shaved like 30% off my edit time just from not having to reach for the keyboard every two seconds. it's wild how one piece of gear can make such a difference in how fast you can work through a timeline.
