Dropped $40 on a decent microphone last month and it totally changed my recording quality
I was using my laptop's built-in mic for voiceovers (big mistake) and the difference is night and day. Has anyone else found one cheap upgrade that made a huge difference in their content?

the difference is night and day" - that's exactly how I felt when I upgraded my phone tripod. I had this cheap little one that wobbled anytime I touched it. My cat could walk across the room and the whole thing would shake. I finally got a sturdier one with a proper ball head for like $30 and my videos stopped looking like I filmed them during an earthquake. You don't realize how much the little stuff matters until you actually use something decent. I spent way too long trying to balance my phone on stacks of books before that lol.

The book stacking method was totally serious business until my cat decided my phone looked like a perfect new napping spot. The whole tower collapsed and my phone landed face down on the floor. That was the moment I realized I was basically running a Jenga tournament every time I wanted to record a video. Thirty bucks never felt so cheap for the amount of stress it eliminated.

Wait, you were stacking BOOKS under your phone? That's actually kind of genius in a desperate way but also hilarious lol. I can just picture you trying to get the right angle and then your cat walks by and sends the whole thing crashing down. That's exactly the kind of thing I'd do for way too long before finally admitting I need a real tripod. I mean, $30 is nothing compared to how much time and frustration you probably saved after the upgrade though. Maybe it was worth it just for the peace of mind of not having to hold your breath every time your cat moves.
