Guy at the Dallas meetup told me my YouTube thumbnails were "too honest" and I haven't stopped thinking about it
Sat next to a guy named Marcus at a creator meetup in Dallas last Thursday and he asked to see my channel. He scrolled for about 20 seconds, then said my thumbnails were "too honest" and that I was basically leaving views on the table by not exaggerating the faces. I've got 4,200 subs and decent retention, so I always figured my content carried itself. But he pulled up two of my videos side by side and the one with a shocked face got 3x the clicks of the calm one. Now I'm staring at my whole back catalog wondering how much of this game is just packaging. Anyone else had someone call out their thumbnails like that, and did you actually change them?
