I was using the wrong hashtags for my art posts this whole time

I posted a new digital painting last week and a friend in Chicago asked why I wasn't using #artshare or #supportsmallartists. I checked the analytics and my reach was way lower on posts with my usual generic tags. Has anyone found a good method for finding niche hashtags that actually get seen?

Checking the posts of artists you admire is a solid start. Look at their last five or six posts and write down every hashtag they use. You'll start to see a pattern of maybe five core tags that show up all the time.

Check the hashtags on the top posts in your niche. Honestly, the trending ones work way better than random tags.

I spent an hour last week copying hashtags from big accounts in my niche. The top posts all used the same ten tags, basically.
