Just realized I was digitizing my sketches completely backwards for like 2 years

I used to scan my pencil sketches at 300 DPI and then spend hours cleaning up the noise in Photoshop. Then last month a print shop guy in Austin told me I should scan at 600 DPI minimum if I'm going to vector trace them later. I tried it on a new batch and the line art came out so clean I barely had to touch it. Has anyone else been making this dumb mistake or was it just me?

My buddy scanned his wedding photos at 72 DPI once and wondered why they looked like garbage on a canvas print.

72 DPI is actually fine for screens, but canvas prints need way more detail than that.
