Lost 400 files when my external drive died mid-project and I had to tell the client
Two years ago I was working on a big logo pack for a client in Portland and my backup drive just clicked and died. I had 3 weeks of work on there, about 400 files, and no cloud backup because I thought I was being careful. I sat in my kitchen at 1am trying to figure out what to do and ended up calling my brother who does IT stuff. He told me to stop plugging it in and look up a data recovery place, which cost me $650 and got back maybe 80% of the files. I had to email the client and say half the versions were gone and ask for an extra week. Now I keep everything in two places plus a cloud folder, and I check it every Friday before I log off. What do you all do when a drive dies, is recovery ever worth it or should I just start over next time?
