My client's logo looked like a blob until I switched to a 12-column grid

I had a small business client in Austin whose old logo I kept tweaking for 3 months. No matter what I adjusted, it still looked squished and lazy on their website header. Last week I finally rebuilt it on a strict 12-column grid and dropped the custom script font. The difference was night and day, the same logo now looks sharp and professional at every size. Has anyone else fixed a design that felt broken just by adding structure instead of more creativity?
