My handmade candles sparked a porch chat with Mrs. Jenkins
I've been crafting soy candles in my apartment for fun over the past few months. Finally, I gave a lavender one to my neighbor, and she loved it! The next day, she brought over a peach pie she baked just for me. We ended up sitting on her steps for ages, swapping stories about making things by hand. Her excitement over my simple hobby totally made my week. It's cool how sharing a small creation can connect people. I feel pumped to keep making more and maybe trade with others on our street!

Nice when a hobby turns into a real barter system with neighbors. Try offering a candle for some of her baked goods next time, keeps the trade going. That's how you build a little community right on your street.

Build on that barter idea by setting up a casual swap meet on your block. It encourages everyone to share skills and goods without money getting in the way. You might end up with a tighter knit street where people actually look out for each other.
