That tool I thought was a gimmick... actually saved my project
Last month I was building a custom desk for my home office and kept messing up the pocket holes. My buddy swore by a self-centering drill bit but I figured it was just marketing hype. After the third botched joint, I finally caved and bought one for $12 at Home Depot. First try came out perfect, no wobble or tear-out. Has anyone else had a tool they were dead wrong about?

...and here I am with three bent drill bits sitting in a drawer like a trophy of my stubbornness. I was the same way with a cheap square driver bit holder - thought my hands were fine until I snapped two screws in a row and nearly threw my whole tool bag out the window. Now I just laugh at my old self and buy the right tool the first time.

Oh man, I read somewhere that cheap bits are just recast scrap metal! Totally feel you @logan236.

Yeah that scrap metal thing is pretty accurate from what I've seen! I've cut open a few bargain bin bits and the metal looks completely different from the good stuff inside, it's no wonder they snap so fast.
