A weird login alert from my bank saved my account
I was at a coffee shop in Tacoma using their free wifi to check my email. My phone buzzed with a text from my bank asking if I tried to log in from a city I've never been to. I froze for a second, then I opened my bank app on my phone's data, not the wifi, and changed my password right there. I also turned on two-factor login for everything after that. Has anyone else had a close call like that from a public network?

Yeah, did the same thing. @emery736 is right about VPNs.

VPNs are a lifesaver for public wifi.

Totally agree they're a lifesaver. A lot of people forget that public wifi is basically an open network. Using a VPN is the easiest way to lock it down.
